II.2.4) Description of the procurement:
This VEAT notice is to notify of our intention to award a contract for the supply of a direct electron detector optimised for 100 keV imaging in electron microscopes. The Quantum C100 detector is a novel direct electron detector optimised for 100 keV imaging in electron microscopes. This equipment is unique as it has 4 x as many pixels as the current best detector, allowing better sub-pixel localisation. The LMB requires detectors of this specification to carry on research for our on-going CyroEM 100 project. UKRI intends to award a contract to Quantum Detectors as the only provider of equipment capable of meeting our requirements and considers that award of a contract without prior publication of a call for competition is justified under regulation 32(2)(b)(ii) of the PCR 2015 because competition is absent for technical reasons.
