3. Explanation
UKRI has a legal obligation to have a CLA licence in order to meet our business needs when it comes to making copies, sharing or re-using content protected by copyright. This is requirement of bought in services from our media monitoring contract with CISION and is used in conjunction with a full NLA licence which UKRI holds. CLA are recognised by the government (https://www.gov.uk/copyright-licensing-agency-licence) as the collective licensing body for the reuse of text and images from books, journals and magazines.
