      II.2.4) Description of the procurement: UKRI require a high speed detector for advanced small-molecule and 3D micro-crystallography, to improve capabilities for high speed resolution imaging and crystallographic analysis in our EM facilities. There is only one provider of equipment capable of meeting our requirements which include: 1) Speed of over 2000 fps in 16 bit mode to collect data from many samples rapidly in a single microscope shift; 2) High (32 bit) maximal image bit depth to accurately detect signals on a single image and observe fine crystallographic changes; and 3) Resolution of 1028 by 1062 to solve the structure of the target molecule and collect 1 Å data from protein crystals to capture high resolution features such as protons. With only one Supplier able to meet the technical requirements an award of contract without prior publication of a call for competition is justified under regulation 32(2)(b)(ii) of the PCR 2015.
